Šavnik: Vrbovo pruće in the town where the sun rises and sets twice
At the beginning, there were two mills, Petnjički and Previški on the village river Šavnik. The visionaries from the second half of the 19th century, from the area of Pljevlja, Lješanska nahija, Bjelopavlić, built three houses in the area below Tunjomir. These were a tavern with a shop, a "tufegžinica" and a forge. Soon a new town was created, named after the willow-twigs that covered the ground floor of that time. The city expanded, after the First World War it became the administrative center of the Durmitor region.
Even now, Šavnik has almost unchanged physiognomy in relation to its urban beginnings. When you pass through this distinctly northern municipality, you have the feeling that you are passing through coastal streets. The sea air is not felt, but the fresh and sharp clarity of Drobnjak, and the houses are built on the model of the coastal ones. All this thanks to the brides of Rišnjan, who married Drobnjak men in large numbers. As there were no workmen in that area at that time, they brought their brothers, bricklayers, acquaintances, who gave Šavnik a coastal look.
Sunrises and sunsets are lyrical in this town. However, few cities can boast of the phenomenon that the sun rises and sets twice. It happens in the days around the equinox. Then, in the morning, the sun rises over Kravica Hill, and around 2 pm, it sets behind Gradac Hill. The second time the sun rises above Komarnica, and sets behind the mountain Vojnik.
Another interesting feature of the natural reserve of the phenomenon is the appearance of Mukavica, which captures the source of the river Šavnik. Mukavica is actually a karst spring, made up of two underground groundwaters connected to each other. In times of drought, the groundwaters are unevenly filled and emptied, resulting in the appearance of airbags, causing the spring to dry out. It lasts from a few minutes to half an hour.
And in Šavnik, in addition to natural donations, there are numerous historical and cultural testimonies.
